2025 Microlino, driven by smiles
Picture this: your alarm goes off, you take your coffee and you step outside to… well, not get into a car, but climb into something that looks like a crossover between a fridge and an AirPod on wheels.
Ladies and gentlemen, meet the 2025 Microlino -the electric microcar that has nothing to do with speed and everything to do with pure joy and smiles.
Retro-Futuristic Candy
The Microlino looks like it just rolled out of a Disney movie! All bubbly curves, cheerful lights -which remind me of the ears of Shrek- and that front door that swings open like a fridge. And we haven’t told you the best part! It’s a “convertible”. You literally enter the future the same way you’d grab a beer. People smile, kids point, and dogs bark -mostly because they’re jealous.
Inside? Two seats -or maybe I need to say: 2 places to sit on one bench-, a steering wheel, a minimalist screen, a “boombox” which acts as a radio and just enough space for a weekend bag or a few crates of beer: 230 liters of luggage space, we’re really impressed by the size of that boot!
It’s simple but surprisingly solid. You can tell it’s been designed by people who prioritize fun over cupholders. Coming back to the “surprisingly solid”-part, that’s without talking about the waterproofing in a carwash.
On the Road: City Fun with Go-Kart Vibes
Hit the pedal and you’ll notice it instantly: light, surprisingly loud, quick and cheeky up to around 40-50 km/h. In the city, that’s plenty. The Microlino darts through traffic like a happy puppy chasing a ball. There’s no power steering, so you feel everything — the tarmac, the cobblestones, the occasional bump and the pump of your biceps when getting into a parking space. It’s direct and honest, but on rough roads, it shakes you around like a cocktail shaker.
Acceleration? Let’s call it 0–50 km/h in the time it takes to say “Look mom, no ABS!” Beyond that, it calms down -a nice way to say it’s pretty slow- and at it’s top speed of 90 km/h (but we pushed it up to the crazy speed of 92 km/h), it feels like you’re riding a very aerodynamic hairdryer.
Range & Charging
Depending on which battery you pick (6, 10.5 or 14 kWh), you’ll go somewhere between 90 and 230 km on a charge. Plug it into a household socket overnight and by morning, you’re good to zip through the city again. Coffee in one hand, grin on your face.
The Downsides
Let’s be honest: the Microlino is not built for highways, potholes, or anyone over six feet tall. In Belgium, because the Microlino can hit 90 km/h, it’s technically allowed to do the first thing, driving on a highway. But it’s not really safe, moreover, scary as f*ck.
There are no airbags, no fancy driver aids, no adaptive cruise — just you, a steering wheel and a deep trust in your reflexes (and karma). It doesn’t help that the brakes aren’t the most grippy ones, even though the heaviest Microlino only weighs in at 530 kilograms. I would have loved some better brakes!
And yes, it costs about as much as some “real” small EVs. In Belgium, we’re talking about 25.000 euros for our test “car”. So you’re definitely buying it with your heart, not your spreadsheet.
Verdict: Mini Car, Maxi Charm
The Microlino 2025 isn’t a means of transport. It’s a mood. A rolling reminder that driving can still be fun. You won’t go faster, farther or fancier, but you’ll do it with more style and joy than anyone stuck in traffic. For city life, it’s brilliant: nimble and bursting with personality.
In short, the Microlino is a smile with a plug.
