A little while ago, we had the chance to test the Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 coupe and we were very happy with it, to say the least. Mercedes gave us the chance to try out the top-tier GLE and who are we to decline? There are worse ways to fill up a weekend!

Entry-level or cheapest of the bunch sounds so disrespectful for a car of this caliber. But never in the history of cars has the entry-level been such a pleasure, especially in this Night Edition. So welcome to the review of the cheapest and least powerful AMG GT.

Recently refreshed, this E 53 Estate closes the gap between the high-performance AMG models and the regular E-Class. How does an entry level AMG behave in Mercedes’ balanced line-up? Is it either a big hit or a bad compromise? We drove this six cylinder Estate to find out.

The boys at Affalterbach aren’t picky when it comes to tackling a car. (Almost) everything with a Mercedes-star at the front is dipped in the typical AMG-sauce. And trust us, from time to time weird creations appear. From a supercar-bullying A 45 S to the blue angular GLB 35. The newest one to the list is an SUV -but also a Coupé- with a mild hybrid and numbers to call it a “light-version”.

The Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 S 4Matic+ is bonkers and the only thing we can think about is the comparison with the tasty Oreo cookies. Strange? No, we disagree.

Entry-level versus high-end hot hatch. Fun versus hardcore performance pocket rocket. Cute versus cool little bomb. Knife versus nuke. 30k versus a 100k. I'll stop now.

So we got the opportunity to test out the Mercedes-AMG CLA 35 and it being the smallest out of the AMG range, we asked ourselves the question: is it fun enough on some nice roads but also comfortable enough for long distances?

AWD, around 300 HP and a hatch shaped body. Now where did we see that before? Yes, exactly, plenty of other manufacturers offer a similar setup. It seems to be market worth entering, else Daimler would have never given the Mercedes-AMG A35 the proverbial green flag for production.

We took the AMG GT 63 S for a run through the lovely woods of Spa and the Nurburgring and it left us in awe with what the people in Affalterbach have cooked up as a Porsche Panamera rival.
