Geneva 2017 | Audi RS5 first petrol with E-compressor

No RS1 but quite the show stopper

We've seen it testing on the Green Hell for about two years, but now the cloak has finally been lifted. The brand new Audi RS5 has arrived. How does it compare to the previous generation? Here's some facts to get you warmed up: it has a new engine, rear-axle-orientated AWD system, and the last one is paired with a locking differential.

No longer does the Audi RS5 carry a V8, it now uses a 'hot V6'. That engine contributes to the weight drop of 60 kilograms, but is up in power. Audi claims the fuel consumption has also improved but we all know that's irrelevant for cars like this. Power now comes in at 450hp and 600 Nm, launching the car to a hundred in 3.9 seconds and there's a limiter slowing you down at 280 KPH. Not that quick? Yup, else it would get to close to its bigger brothers.

Hopes were up for the implementation of the E-compressor the SQ7 uses, sadly no such thing happend. What is new is the 40/60 split of the Quattro system, Audi claims a more dynamic drive because of it. Don't ever think you'll be drifter in this thing though.

They're hitting the road later this year but no prices are out there yet.
