BMW Z5 and Toyota Supra share genes, both testing

Development sharing is caring? No, it's just cutting costs but it sounded good.

It's almost time for the last industry-pool testing of the year at the Nürburgring and we spotted the upcoming BMW Z5 prototype. Oh, and we also saw a Toyota Supra prototype. Coincidence? Nope, these two share more genes than your average father and kid believe they do. Just look at the licence plate, even the Toyota comes from Munich.

Toyota Supra

Both cars might shares genes but their final products are said to be very different. BMW has made it clear that they're not aiming for the skies with this car in terms of performance. Positioning it more as a sporty, back to basic roadster. Toyota on the other hand do aim at performance, falling in line with the original Supra philosophy.

BMW Z5

With the underpinning being the same, details will match like they do in the latest Fiat-Mazda marriage. After that rumours point towards different worlds. Where BMW is rumoured to stick to a 4-cylinder, the Supra is rumoured to use anything from 4-cylinder to a hybrid V6.

It's still all rumours at this point, rumours that will undoubtedly turn in to facts once their launches come closer in 2018. Stay tuned.
