Making its debut at the 25th annual Goodwood FOS is the Maserati Levante GTS. The sibling to the well known Levante Trofeo that is also making its European debut this weekend.
When Maserati unveiled the Levante Trofeo, everyone was going wild for it. The great handling Italian SUV was getting the V8 power it always deserved. But when it was announced that might be only selling to the US market, a lot of people were bummed out.
However that might now be changing with the Levante GTS, Maserati’s latest addition to the Levante lineup. The Levante GTS brings the same power plant architecture to the table as its Trofeo sibling. The Ferrari-assembled 3.8L V8 that originally came from the Quattroporte GTS has been re-engineered to work with the Maserati Q4 All-wheel drive system. The retuned engine now provides 550 hp and 730 Nm’s of torque.
This gives the car some stunning performance figures for an SUV. A weight/power ratio of 3.9 kg/hp, acceleration to 100 kmh in only 4.2 seconds and a top speed of 292 kmh sure makes this Maserati no slouch in the performance department.
The chassis of the Levante has also been retuned to handle the immense power that the GTS holds without any effort. Maserati says that this provides a true GranTurismo pedigree driving experience in an SUV.
The Levante GTS design takes clues from the Trofeo version. The sporty theme in the levante continues with the new lower front fascia and rear bumper giving the car a new and sporty road presence.
Moving further into the cabin, the Levante GTS features the new sport pedals like the Trofeo and also a Harman Kardon 14 speaker audio system.
Alongside the GTS model, the full Levante line-up has inherited the same features introduced in the Trofeo like the Adaptive Full LED Matrix headlights as an option, the standard Integrated Vehicle Control and the redesigned gear shifter is now available on the full Maserati line-up.
Alongside the Levante GTS’s world debut at Goodwood is the Levante Trofeo’s European debut which suggests that the Trofeo might also be available for order in Europe for MY19.
