Don’t act like you didn’t see this coming…

As time is a linear thing, we all know that eventually every car brand will electrify. Latest news on that front: the first AMG EV has been confirmed during a chat between the Mercedes-Benz CEO and the guys over at Autocar during the IAA.

To be fair: there has already been an AMG EV. Remember the 750hp SLS Electric Drive? AMG offered this car to customers back in 2013, but seldom has this car been spotted on public roads. Presumably the brand made the move a bit too early and sold less than a 100 units. But times are changing, and the EV is a hot topic again. Good thing we can still enjoy the brand’s 4-liter, V8 for the next few years (or Italian V12s). Enough time to accept the end of the ICE era.

We have to get to the point where the means of propulsion is not considered important, because AMG is all about the experience of customers. That is why we are starting to work not just on electrified AMGs but also our first fully electric AMGs.”

Ola Kallenius, MB CEO

Ola Kallenius, MB CEO, confirmed that he ‘green flagged’ the development of an AMG EV. This follows in line with Mercedes-Benz EQ model line that is being developed for the common folks. Details are missing at this point, but him stating not just a model, but “AMGs” means the brand is more than serious. We’ll keep you updated once more facts roll in!
