McLaren and special editions, it’s even worse than Lamborghini and their tendency to overkill the market with must-have-models. And the killing hasn’t stopped no, a 675LT Spider Carbon Series has been launched.
The 675LT Spider Carbon Series is an afterbirth, nothing more and nothing less. What else can one compare a car to that was supposed to be limited to just 1000, err 500. McLaren Special Operations keeps pulling the same rabbit out of its hat, a rabbit that has been long dead.
There, getting that cynism out helps and now it’s time for the facts. McLaren has sold all 25 of the 675LT Spider Carbon Series beforehand. Their selling point? McLaren puts it down as following; “retractable roof and tonneau, A-pillars, bonnet and rear deck, side blades, complete front and rear wings, and even fuel filler flap”. All these are now carbon fiber and that is on top of all the carbon-goodness that was already present. No alterations were done to the car technically but I assume that the reduced weight doesn’t offer something that’s translatable for the marketing department.
All we can do now is brace for another special edition, one-off or a form of historical exploitation. Sigh.
